September 2026 Meeting

14 made it to the September meeting (Pic001).

Mike Bartleet brought along his latest 0-16.5 layout (pic002). The theme is ‘early preservation’ and Mike displayed a selection of stock. This included a Bachmann NG7 Quarry Hunslet and Inverted Saddle Tank made from the Springside kit. The loco shed is one of Bachmann’s ‘ready to plant’ buildings. Mike bought this as a set with the Hunslet and slate wagon stock). The ‘preservation’ theme continues to the baseboards. These were built from balsa wood by the late Paul Towers with a foam board top added by Mike.

Chris Blackwell brought along his travelling workstation (pic003). He was painting some Dundas Models Hudson skip wagons in various shades of rust. He also had a resin kit for a LNER J70 tram loco. He was planning to build this to standard gauge once he sourced a Tenshodo chassis.

Paul Atkin was also using the meeting time to get some model making done (pic004 left, talking to Colin Capel). This time Paul was working on a Worsley Works kit of Wantage Tramway No.6 (pic005) using a Kato 11-109 chassis.

Ian Willetts brought along Pete Hardy’s Brandgeight. This was a test run for it’s first outing under Ian’s ownership at NG NOW on October 31st (pic006). An issue with the capacitor discharge unit curtailed any shunting practice but otherwise a selection of Ian’s stock. These included an A1 models Fowler diesel on Farish class 14 chassis and Fourdees Prima – exercised their wheels. Part of the aim for Ian bringing the layout was to practice setting up and breaking down the layout (pic007). If we are going to equal Pete’s record for packing up after the show closing we’ll need to practice!

Neil Davies brought along Alfriston, another layout getting a ‘shake down’ before it’s debut at NG NOW. Julien Webb’s Victoria had been invited along for clearance trials but discovered that the bridge parapets were too close together. This meant she was so was relegated to a siding whilst other stock ran past. This included Charlie Forbes’ Grandt Line box cab loco (Pic008), running on a Tramfabriek ‘Allrounder’ chassis.

Charlie also had his directors saloon (behind Victoria in pic009). Also shown with Neil’s Sentinel steam railcar and a pair of Kerr Stuart diesels. The green one runs on a Bachmann MDT chassis (ex Chris Ford). The Grey one is a 3d print on a Farish 03. Ian Willetts also ran his Fowler ‘Peldon’ (Nonneminstre kit on a Narrow Garage chassis from Japan). Trevor Street’s Ruston – Joseph Jacks print on a Toma chassis – shows how huge Victoria is!
