My thanks to Neil Davies for running the meeting, taking the photos, and writing this report!
Thirteen ventured to Four Oaks for the October meeting (Pic001).
Trevor Street brought along the group’s layout Norton Heath, making it available for anyone to use as a test track. (Pic002)
Dick Johnson had a micro snow scene ‘Winterfull’, with a small 0-4-0 and three small 4w wagons running round. (Pic003)
Kevin Wright showed one of his military cameos – a spectacle case containing a section of a trench in the body and a disassembled plane in the lid. He also did some modelling during the evening, fabricating an interior for a WDLR ambulance van, including casualties on stretchers to be fitted to the racks. Another piece of rolling stock on show was his Dick, Kerr petrol electric loco – the brass body kit fitted on a Tramfabriek universal chassis (Pic004, Pic005)
Paul Atkin brought along Brende Lanes End and a selection of his rolling stock. The layout is separate split level trackwork, featuring a continuous circuit on the upper level and a fan of sidings/shunting puzzle on the lower. Navigating the top loop included a DoubleM 3D print Simplex mounted on a Portram chassis and hauling a kit built L&B coal wagon. (Pic006, 7 & 8)
Esme Matthews had a working prototype of their forthcoming WDLR Hunslet 4-6-0t kit running around Neil Davies’ test track. The kit will soon be available via Westcliff Workshops’ website and at exhibitions. (Pic009)
Joseph Jacks brought two small layouts. First is his completed ‘Dolfach’ scene, with Dolgoch, a coach and two slate wagons trundling around. On top of ‘Dolfach’s box was a small circuit of 6.5 mm gauge track being tested by various small industrial locos and wagons all printed by Joseph. (Pic010).
Finally many attendees browsed the table of items from Tony Land, making donations benefiting the Alzheimer Society and group funds, and also a few items cleared out from Dick Johnson’s cupboards. (Pic011) This raised £183.70.
