July 2026 Meeting

11 made it to the June meeting.

Kevin Wright brought along a military cap from the 2nd Essex Regiment (pic001).  With the press of a button this opened to reveal a mini diorama of the 1914 Christmas Truce.  It features a protected Simplex running on a small circle of track with a football match between the 2nd Essex Regiment and 19th Saxon Corps (pic002).

Paul Atkin had finished the 009 van he was working on the previous month (pic003).  Paul also brought along something from the bigger end of the NG Modelling spectrum. His SM-32 Wittemburg Schafer loco was battery powered and controlled by a Loco Remote app on his smartphone.  It spent most of the meeting trundling on its plastic track with a pair of toast rack coaches (pic004) or a Snailbeach hopper wagon.

Ben Powell had a selection of the recently released Rapido 009 wagons.  These looked rather nice on Neil Davies’ test track behind Ben’s scratch built ‘Oakhill’ (pic005).  Neil had also been shopping with Rapido having bought a “Peckett & Sons Ltd”‘ special edition 009 wagon. Neil also ran his Toma 4 wheel chassis and a pair of NWNGR coaches from Robex (pic006). One if based on the NWNGR ‘Pickering’ bogie brake whilst the other is a freelance composite based on the Pickering design.

Andrew & Isobel Bizley brought along St. Michael’s as a test run for the layout’s next outing at the Bala Lake Railway (pic007).  Andrew also had a selection of the new Kato 009 ‘Unitrack’ and a similar selection of 6.5mm gauge track (pic008).  This was a mix of Busch HOf and Rokuhan and Peco Z, and saw use by a couple of locos. Both use the Rokuhan ‘shorty’ chassis under a Roco and Minitrains Plymouth body respectively.

Continuing the “00-6.5” theme Joseph Jacks brought along one of his Ruston LA locos (home printed body on Toma chassis).  He’d also designed & printed a skip wagon and a track base to take metal rails slid in.  Along with a Ratio grounded van acting as a loco shed this had the makings of a new layout (pic009).
