West Mids Group meeting, May 5th 2023 at Four Oaks Methodist Church Hall

12 attended the May meeting.

Adrian Hall brought along his HOn3 clip together track. He used it test a pair of ready to run Model Die Castling / Model Power 2-Truck HOn3 shays he had acquired. These had some issues, but Adrian had one running (less engine & line shafting) by the end of the evening (pic001).

Matthew Tozer was working on painting a 3d printed loco body from Budget Model Railways in a fetching red livery (pic 002 & 003).

Alec Matthews brought along Barrow Road with some of the re-working he’s undertaken since purchasing it from Hugh Freeman (Pic004).

Dick Johnson’s ‘Tren Bach’ made a welcome return. There was a Bachmann Baldwin theme with four on the layout one point. The Ashover’s”Peggy” in maroon livery was snapped hauling a special train. This was Bob Taylor’s Coronation special coach along with a supply of Purple Moose beer for the party back at the palace! (Pic005).

Steve Mann brought along his test track and ran in his Liliput 0-4-0 diesel in preparation for it’s new body. This is one of the Hunslet “Wagonmaster” Bord na Mona loco kits from Narrow Planet (Pic006). Also running were Steve’s Bachmann ‘Rusty’ with raised cab. In addition a pair of hopper wagons – one built from a Triang TT body, the other a Liliput HOe body. (Pic007) Both had been fitted with 009 bogies.

Pete Hardy had made it back from setting up at the Severn Valley show with his test track. Pete had also brought along two locos. “Elsie” is an 0-4-0 on a Fleischmann chassis re-motored with one of the Tramfabreik kits. The other was Sharp Stewart 2-4-0 “Helen” whose Farish chassis has been further modified with the fitting of a Tramnfabriek motor (Pic008).

Ian Willetts brought along his new layout “Pen Coed”. Ian had planned to bring this to an earlier meeting but a few issues with the wiring put paid to that. Much testing was undertaken at the meeting. Running were a selection of Ian’s locos that included a Kerr Stuart diesel on a Farish 04 chassis and a 3D printed Bagnall wing tack on a Minitrains Kraus chassis. (Pic009).
